Distance Aware

The Scottish Government have asked us to pass on the attached file about the new Distance Aware scheme. This is a scheme that you may have seen advertised whereby those who feel vulnerable with the lifting of restrictions can use a new symbol to show people that they do not want others too close. Its good that we know what it means if people in parishes use it so we can help them to feel comfortable and safe at Mass, and the link shown will allow access to the information relating to distance aware

Cases

Some have asked what to do if they become aware of someone who attended Mass who has then tested positive, now that we no longer have to have track & trace. The Bishops’ experts have issued the following advice: “If a situation arises where a parishioner or visitor to the parish contracts Covid and the parish priest is made aware of it, it will be for the priest to decide if he wants to take further action such as placing a notice in the bulletin or an announcement after the conclusion of Mass encouraging those in attendance at the Mass or service in question to take a lateral flow test. If the priest does decide to make an announcement he should be careful not to reference the name of the individual concerned.”

Other Questions

We have been asked about some other issues, such as the resumption of Holy Water stoups. The Bishops are still seeking expert advice on these issues and for just now we should keep things as they are.

With best wishes
