Candles
Dear All
With reference to the St Killians Candle Burning System used by a number of our policyholders, please be advised that we have been notified of two claims that occurred in July where the contents of the waste tray within the candle stand has caught fire causing significant smoke damage to the churches involved.
Loss adjusters have been appointed and the preliminary reports from both indicate that the fires have occurred due to the manufacturers recommended maintenance programme not being fully complied with. The manufacturer recommends that on at least a bi-weekly basis:
- Any residual wax is cleared off the stand itself
- Wax must be emptied from the water tray along with any other foreign bodies
- Water levels within the water tray must be maintained to a depth of at least 2 inches
In order to try and prevent any further losses we have drafted the attached guidance note and would appreciate it if this can be circulated around your parishes at the earliest opportunity.
